Still sick; catalog watch

Smart Girls Have More Fun
Still sick. STILL SICK. Damn it. I would take a day off and stay home, but I don't think it would make a lick of difference.

Monterey has returned to its most summery weather - it's about 60 degrees with intermittent drizzle. (Yes, summer in Monterey is like fall in many other cities. September and October, on the other hand, are mostly mid-70s and sunny. Except for today.) Fortunately, the sun should return tomorrow.

Funny - my wardrobe from Boston would be totally appropriate for this city (although possibly not the parka), and my wardrobe from LA just doesn't work. Most of the year here is like winter in LA, between 45 and 50 at night and 55 and 65 during the day. And, weirdly, there's even less seasonal variation than there was in LA.

We're coming up on the end of Catalog Watch month here at the ol' Livejournal de rednikki. I'm still seeing new catalogs!

  1. Jessica London (clothes allegedly for girls my size, but every model looks the same as the Newport News models, i.e. not even close to my size - and I'm at the very bottom of the size range for this catalog! [info]mycranium1 looked at a rear view of one model in jeans and said, "That's like Harry Dean Stanton!")
  2. Viva Terra
  3. Crate and Barrel
  4. Peruvian Connection (I am not clear when a velvet riding jacket or silk skirt MADE IN INDIA got deemed Peruvian fashion, but whatever; I guess that's why they get to charge $400 for the skirt...)

So, what is this catalog watching thing you speak of? You seeing what come in?

See all items tagged "catalog watch". The previous tenant of this residence got about every catalog known to man, so for the past 29 days I've been logging every catalog that comes in to the house.

This may sound crazy, but...I like Catalog Watch! A good chunk of my wardrobe comes from off-season sale shopping from American online clothing stores, because I'm petite and curvy, and they just don't make clothes for me in New Zealand. Peruvian Connection has gone on my "watch" list because they have petites. Petites on sale, may I note. So, thanks for Catalog Watch.

I'm glad you find it useful!

Sick.
We recently went through being sick. Took a visit to an Urgent care to get me antibiotics and an inhaler to get through it, and then a subsequent visit to my GP to be able to hear again out of the ear I managed to cough gunk up into. Still not 100% in that ear, either.

Hope you feel better soon.

Re: Sick.
I am not as sick as you are, but you have served as quite a warning.

one word for monterey dressing: jackets.

it also happens to be one of the biggest words for fall 2008 wardrobes.

you should be able to make a killing.

A wise idea. I shall find more.

So you're up to what, 54 catalogs now?

Yes, 54, unless I forgot to tag a catalog watch day in there somewhere.

I am a big girl, and I have OPINIONS about catalogs/stores/websites that cater to bigger women who feature teeny tiny models. even http://bandlu.com/looks.asp who used to have a nice range of bigger models in *gasp* different shapes than hourglass, have used significantly smaller models this season.

and the next person to tell me a size 8-10 is a plus size model I will cut. if they proclaim to cater to size 12-44, show me a goddamn size 20, at least!
